About the exam

What the IRCC medical actually is.

An IRCC-mandated examination by a panel physician (us) to assess admissibility on health grounds. It is not a comprehensive physical and does not produce a report you can use elsewhere. Results go directly to IRCC eMedical and are valid for 12 months from exam date.

Frequently Asked

How long are the results valid?

12 months from the exam date. If your visa decision takes longer than 12 months, IRCC may request a re-examination.

Do I need to fast?

No fasting required. Eat and drink normally before the visit.

Can I get the results?

We do not release findings to you directly; IRCC is the requesting party. We provide a proof-of-exam slip with your eMedical reference number that you can show to your visa officer or lawyer.

What if I am pregnant?

Tell us at booking. Chest X-ray is either deferred until after delivery or performed with abdominal lead shielding — IRCC accepts either approach.

What if my chest X-ray shows abnormalities?

We may request additional sputum tests, follow-up imaging, or specialist referral. This adds time but does not necessarily disqualify you. Common findings (granulomas, healed scars) are usually cleared.

I am a refugee — does the process differ?

Refugees and protected persons sponsored by IRCC have the exam fully covered by the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). Bring your IRCC referral and IFHP card.

Do you accept walk-ins?

No — appointment only. Walk-ins cannot be guaranteed an X-ray slot.

What languages do you speak?

All staff speak English; Cantonese and Mandarin available daily; Punjabi available on request with advance notice.
