IRCC Immigration Medical Exam: How to Prepare (Checklist)

If IRCC has asked you (or your family) to complete an immigration medical exam, the visit itself is straightforward — most people are in and out in about 45 minutes. The thing that actually delays files is paperwork: arriving without the right documents. Here is the checklist we give our own patients.
Bring all of these — IRCC requires originals
- Valid passport for every person being examined.
- IRCC Medical Report Form (IMM 1017E) if you received one, or the instruction letter from IRCC. Doing an upfront medical before applying? Bring your IRCC reference number if you have it.
- Glasses or contact lenses if you normally wear them — vision is checked with your usual correction.
- A list of current medications with doses.
- Reports for any prior tuberculosis or significant medical conditions, if you have them.
What happens during the visit
Eat normally beforehand — this is not a fasting visit. Wear comfortable clothing; you will change into a gown for the X-ray and physician exam.
What is tested depends on age:
- Adults (15+): vitals, vision, urinalysis, bloodwork, chest X-ray and a physician exam.
- Children 11–14: the same, minus bloodwork.
- Children under 11: vitals and a physician exam only — no blood, no X-ray.
Pregnant applicants: tell us at booking. The chest X-ray is deferred or done under a shielded protocol. Pacemaker or prior TB? Mention it at booking so we can schedule extra time.
After the exam
We file results electronically to IRCC eMedical within 24 hours and hand you a printed proof-of-exam slip with your eMedical reference number. Panel clinics do not release medical findings directly to applicants — IRCC receives them and follows up if anything needs attention.
Booking, fees and family visits
Most weeks we have appointments within 5–7 days. Book whichever way is easiest:
- Online: vancouvermedicalexam.ca/book-online
- Phone: 604-629-8968 (English / Mandarin / Cantonese, Mon–Fri 9–5)
- Email: [email protected] — include passport name, date of birth and your IRCC reference number if you have one.
Three or more family members booked together receive 10% off. Same-day rush appointments are possible for a $120 surcharge, subject to availability. Lab and X-ray fees are billed separately at the lab front desk; cancellations are $50. Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your appointment time — and bring the documents above, so one visit is all you need.
